Did you know smoke damage can travel through walls, floors, and stick to ceilings?
Smoke damage will not stay in one area. It can permeate all corners of your home.
Smoke flows around plumbing systems, seeping through the holes used by pipes to go from floor to floor. Smoke can be tricky, and there are many different types to make cleaning and restoring a true job for professionals.
Different Types of Smoke
There are several different types of smoke: wet, dry, protein, and fuel/oil.
Wet Smoke:
- Low heat, smoldering, pungent odor, sticky, smeary. Smoke webs are more difficult to clean.
Dry smoke:
- Fast burning, high temperatures, heat rises, therefore, smoke rises.
Protein Smoke:
- cooking mishaps can discolor paint or varnish. Hard to spot, but easy to smell.
Fuel/Oil:
- Petroleum residue can be sticky and challenging to clean. This type is common in puff back damages in homes without proper releases for the smoke and soot.
