Lightning- This can create some of the most damage. Lightning strikes can create fires in your home and especially your attic. 

Thunderstorms- Thunderstorms probably will not leave any damage, but they are typically a precursor for more serious storms that can cause damage. 

Tornadoes- Tornadoes usually leave a huge mess in their wake. They can create damage for miles and miles in several cities and towns across their path.

Here are a few places where storm damage more regularly occurs: 

Attic: You do not regularly go into your attic, so after storms, it is vital you check it out. Lightning can create fire damage or small sparks. Water damage can come through and hide behind furniture or other storage items against the walls. Check your attic for damage regularly. It’s important to assess your attic space as often as you check other parts of your home. 

Roof: Check your roofing after severe summer weather. You need to make sure there are no leaks or shingles that are missing. These need to be repaired as soon as you can to prevent secondary damage after a storm.
