Smoke alarms can improve the safety of your home a significant amount when it comes to fires. A fire can happen at any time, and you will want to make sure you and your family are safe. Here are a few tips from the American Red Cross on how to update your smoke alarms to keep your family and home safe before a fire ignites:
- Have a smoke alarm on every level of your home and in every bedroom.
- Keep smoke alarms away from windows, doors, walls, or ducts that can stop your alarms from working properly.
- Check your smoke alarm monthly.
- Replace smoke alarm batteries every year, or more if needed.
Keeping your family safe is the main priority to having a properly working smoke alarm; but fires can also cause hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars’ worth of damage every year. There is soot, smoke, and even water damage when it comes to a bad fire. The faster you know there is a fire, the faster you can get it put out.
