Flood Events and PPE
During seasons of major events, what is brought to the forefront of everyone's mind is how to keep workers who have to stay on the front lines, safe. The answer: PPE.
The use of PPE is important for a few reasons most notably, the safety of our staff and the safety and sanitation of the property we are working with and the customers we are working for at the time.
We do daily and weekly assurances that our staff is trained in the proper use and knowledge of PPE. We make this a main priority because, without our technicians, we cannot do our jobs for our customers. This allows them to be safe and focus on the job at the end, rather than worry about exposure to possibly toxic materials. When our staff knows they are safe, they can focus on providing superior service to our customers.
We value our employees and the safety of others on the job sites. We especially want to make sure they are staying safe during flood events when the toxins in the water that sticks to surfaces are dangerous. PPE protects our team.

Has your business ever needed professional water damage clean-up?
Water damage is something that many business owners and homeowners do not take lightly. Water damage is when moisture and excessive amounts of water have collected in an area. Water damage clean-up is most effective when a professional with the right equipment is called.
Here are a few of our water damage restoration equipment names and uses:
l Air Movers l
The most common type of water damage clean-up equipment, the air mover pushes moisture to evaporate more quickly. Air movers can help dry water-damaged flooring and other surfaces.
l Dehumidifiers l
Dehumidifiers can help maintain humidity in the air to a certain set. This type of equipment helps with water damage that has excessive moisture.
l Air Scrubbers l
When water damage leads to other damages, an air scrubber is necessary for clean-up. Air scrubbers help with smells from mold and airborne contaminants.
l Moisture Meters l
Moisture meters are a restoration technician's best friend. Moisture meters can gauge the water damage severity in a home, and they help with water damages on surfaces.
Water damage clean-up is much most effective with the specialty equipment listed above. Call our offices when your home or business has water damage.

Is there mold in your commercial property after flooding?
3/8/2022 (Permalink)
Flood Damage in your Commercial Property can cause Mold
There are several times when flooding can get into your commercial property. When water gets in and is not dried properly, mold can gather. Here are a few tips to keep mold from forming in your Henderson commercial building:
Get Rid of Moisture
Before the mold can be addressed to remove, as much moisture as possible needs to be removed. If there is standing water, it can be dangerous to walk into your home or commercial property, so please make sure you can safely enter the building or structure.
Protect Yourself
Standing water, especially category 3 can create dangerous situations. For example, electrical wiring. You don't want to endure an electrical shock. Once you know you can safely enter, make sure whoever is entering is protected by wearing protective clothing, such as gloves and a face mask or proper PPE.
Hire a Professional
The best thing you can do is leave it to the experts. SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties have been assessing and cleaning mold for over twenty years. Call us to help with your mold damage remediation.
Water Damage in your London Business
8/18/2021 (Permalink)
Commercial Emergency Preparedness
When an emergency strikes the best way to combat it is to have a plan ahead of time. The best way to do that when you have your own business is to think of scenarios that could happen and prepare.
We have listed a few ways you can prepare for when disaster strikes at your London business:
Have a plan for evacuation:
When a natural disaster occurs, officials will recommend a rapid evacuation. The best way to make sure you have everyone accounted for and that your business is covered is to have a plan of how to leave it. If you need windows boarded, or roofing double-checked --do all of this before you have to evacuate if you have the time. Or you can do the maintenance before the storm and weather emergency season occurs.
Check your insurance policy:
Make sure you have the right coverage for emergency disasters for your commercial policy. It is always best to have the right policy before a disaster occurs rather than have to add it on after and miss the coverage window.
Store Documents Properly:
Documentation can make all the difference when a disaster strikes in your London business. When water damage hits your commercial London business, it is always better to have pertinent information stored so that you can access them during and after an emergency without them being damaged or hard to reach.
Call our offices today for more information on how we can help you prepare for emergency damages in your London commercial property with our Emergency Readiness Profile.

Commercial damages are sometimes more severe than residential because of the large scale of the facilities. But, SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties is here to help.
We know the places mold can be hiding in commercial facilities. Here are a few to be on the lookout for in your busienss:
- Bathrooms: Mold can begin to grow in these places because of the condensation and water that are consistently present in bathrooms. Between grout of tiles that are on bathrooms wall and in showers.
- Windows: When a window is not properly sealed that allows moisture to travel through. Moisture is a playground for mold growth. The improperly sealed windows that allow the moisture can contain the mold spores that you do not want.
- Exterior doors: Another place mold can grow that you may not expect is exterior doors. If these have been sealed improperly, they can allow mold to collect and grow.
If you suspect mold damage, whether you see it or smell it, call our offices today. We have the tools and testing equipment to inspect your mold or possible mold damages.
Commercial Water Damage --We are here to help!
3/16/2021 (Permalink)
We were to help this commercial facility with water damages!
SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties is here to help with your commercial water damages. There are a variety of factors that can occur when it comes to water damages in a large, commercial facility. We have listed a few below to see where we begin:
1. Inspect: Once you suspect or see water damages, you need to call a water mitigation company, like SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties. We will send a team member to inspect the facility and answer your questions. In some cases, if the water is standing, we will begin the drying out process.
2. Load up Contents: As soon as we have permission to do, and the water has started the drying out process, we will begin removing items. We will load up water damaged contents to store at our warehouse. Whatever can be salvaged will be cleaned, dried, deodorized and sanitized using specialized equipment.
3. Extract the Water: Once we have removed contents and assured the scene is safe. We will begin extracting water. Once we have gotten rid of the standing water, we can bring in other equipment to start the drying process. Depending on the type of water, and if it is contaminated or not, will depend on the type of equipment and tactics we use.
5. Restoration: Once the drying process has efficiently dried your facility, another step may be involved. Depending on the type of water damage and severity --you may need our restoration team. The ease and convenience of working with one company will not go unnoticed. Our team will work with you on restoring drywall, flooring, and other structure pieces in your facility.
Call our offices today for more information on drying and restoration. We are here to help with businesses of London, Somerset, Corbin, and surrounding areas.
Commercial Mold Damage: Where is it hiding?
3/9/2021 (Permalink)
Have you wondered about your commercial facility?
...and where is the mold hiding?
There are a variety of commercial facilities that could have mold hiding. The best way to know where mold could be hiding is to have a professional mold testing completed. Our offices can complete mold testings for your facility. Here are a few places that mold can be hiding in plain sight, and what to do when you do find it or suspect it.
Restaurants:
When it comes to restaurants or businesses that incorporate food preparation into their business-- they can typically create a mold thriving setting without even meaning to. Because of the temperatures it takes to keep food stored, or have the HVAC set at a certain temperature to keep customers comfortable, a perfect environment for mold growth can be created. Also, having food debris and other food sources can be a great place for a mold colony to begin to grow and spread.
Apartments, Hotels, and Rental Properties
Mold tends to live, in many cases, where people do as well. This means that landlords and hotel owners are some of the most commonly afflicted business owners and managers when it comes to mold, especially when properties are rented short-term. The best way to combat this is to do mold testing in-between residents and have a schedule set up so you do not forget.
Industrial Settings
There are a variety of industrial facilities that know exactly how to make the right setting to not induce mold growth, but most do not. Sometimes it is not a top priority to detect mold, while other times factory or industry workers can assume that the mold is a part of the surroundings that come with some factories or industrial settings.
Of course, this varies from industry to industry, but it is always a good idea to educate your employees on when and where to look for mold growth for a possible need for professional cleaning.

Water Damage happens -- call us!
Commercial Water Damage
When a water damage occurred in this commercial facility, they had a member of the church who recommended us. In this category 3 water damage, SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties were called to clean up the aftermath. A recent flood damage caused this commercial building to flood. This is a photo of the process in the middle of restoration. The air mover, which is a piece of equipment that dries water damaged structure, is set here towards the floor.
In a category 3 water damage, part of the structure impacted had to be removed before the drying process could take place. Category 3 water damages create contamination that must be removed to make the structure safe to restore.
This building used our reconstruction team too to help with the put back. Since the insulation and so much of the drywall had to be cut out. Our team was there to help!

SERVPRO has come full circle –the grocery store effect.

A look at our Commercial fire damage at the Kroger in Somerset, Kentucky. We cleaned and removed smoke and soot damaged items and areas.
On a recent trip to Birmingham, our marketing team got to meet with Stan Richardson. Stan spoke of SERVPRO’s first ever commercial job. A grocery store in their previous placement in Alabama had caught fire and needed remediation fast. Stan and the SERVPRO team had never done commercial work before so it was a completely new experience. Stan got a team together, and they cleaned the fire up within ten days of the initial first notice of loss.
Now, fast forward more than twenty years later, and SERVPRO completes some of the biggest commercial jobs in the restoration field. We travel far and wide sometimes for commercial work, but we are most proud when we can help our local communities. SERVPRO® of Pulaski and Laurel Counties partnered with another local SERVPRO and completed a fire job in Somerset, Kentucky recently. And, what are the odds, it was a grocery store. SERVPRO has come a long way from the first commercial job, but the motto has always been the same. Whether it’s Somerset, London, or even Birmingham, Alabama; we are here to make your disasters “Like it never even happened.”
From the Bluegrass to Birmingham –the Pulaski and Laurel Counties girls headed South!

On August 28th, one of our owners –Julie Roberts, and part of our marketing team --Ashley Kovaleski and Kelsey White went to SERVPRO of Birmingham, Alabama. The girls traveled over seven hours to reach one of the most historic SERVPRO’s in the U.S.
SERVPRO® of Birmingham began 33 years ago with nothing more than a green clean dream! David Wilson and his team started their SERVPRO from the ground up in Tallahassee, and are still serving Alabama today! While the girls were at SERVPRO® of Birmingham, they trained with some of the top professionals in their field.
While at SERVPRO® of Birmingham, they even got to meet the first SERVPRO Marketing Representative, Stan Richardson, who started with this team from the beginning. He told them about his first commercial job, and how it changed the industry as we know it. A local grocery store had caught fire and while they had never done a commercial property before they took the opportunity to help in their community. They got the job completed in ten days, and thus began the commercial side of SERVPRO.
The SERVPRO experience is unique to say the least, but being around a group of professionals who have the same passion about helping others through disaster is one that cannot be replicated. No matter what state you’re in, SERVPRO strives to make your disasters “Like it never even happened.”

SERVPRO offers property owners no-cost tools for preparing a disaster readiness Plan
London, KY- (Grassroots Newswire) 9-12-16 Each September, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) sponsors an awareness event—National Preparedness Month (http://www.ready.gov/September)—to encourage both home and business owners to review and update their emergency preparedness and business and life continuity plans. Julie Roberts, owner of SERVPRO® of Pulaski & Laurel Counties, encourages London, Somerset, and Corbin property owners to take advantage of the information available from FEMA, because advance planning is critical in dealing with and recovering from the unexpected.
“Most home and business owners have taken basic precautions to protect life and property in the event of an emergency like flooding, fire, wind damage, or even malicious attacks,” said Roberts. “In many cases, building codes require clearly marked emergency exits, fire extinguishers, fire and flood drills, and similar preparations. But the missing link for many property owners is a comprehensive emergency plan that provides first responders with the information they need to deal with the emergency quickly and effectively, like the location of shut-off valves, fire suppression system controls, and emergency contact numbers.”
SERVPRO offers tools for both commercial and residential property owners to help address this problem. Business and home owners alike can download the free SERVPRO READY app, and store time-critical contact and property information electronically, in advance, where it can be accessed with a mobile device in seconds if disaster strikes. In addition, when a business designates their local SERVPRO Franchise Professional as their disaster mitigation and restoration provider, SERVPRO professionals will conduct a no-cost assessment of the facility and assist the owner in completing a comprehensive Emergency READY Profile® (ERP). The ERP includes information about emergency contact numbers, priority and high/risk areas, shut-off valve locations and more that can then be stored in the READY app.
“The most effective response to any emergency is a fast response,” says Roberts, “and that means having critical information available and ready to access at a moment’s notice. FEMA statistics* show that as many as 40 percent of businesses never reopen after a major flood disaster. Minimizing downtime and repairs with a quick, effective response effort can help prevent this type of outcome for businesses and can also help families put their homes and lives back on track in less time and with less stress. Creating a READY profile in advance with SERVPRO’s no-cost tools is well worth the time.”

Franchises named CAPA Mentors
12/3/2015 (Permalink)
SERVPRO of Pulaski & Laurel Counties is honored to announce that we have been named one of 35 franchises recognized as a Commercial Accounts Program Mentor. As the SERVPRO brand grows, our reputation has changed from a residential fire and water restoration company to a restoration company that is “Ready for Whatever Happens”.
Because of this success, both locally and nationally, the need for standardized systems to help develop and deliver consistency in the commercial marketplace for disaster recovery services exists. It has been inspiring to be able to help develop these systems, the training, and help utilize innovative software, sales principles, and structured business practices needed to help establish a Commercial Accounts Program nationally.
It is even more rewarding to be able to help assist franchises through this mentorship program who are newer to commercial disaster recovery, and may need help. We have committed to help any SERVPRO franchise who selects us as a Commercial Accounts Program Mentor with any assistance needed on a commercial loss, regardless of size. From managing and producing these losses to scoping, sales, estimation, or resource management, our local team is “Ready for Whatever happens”. Our team believes in the unilateral vision from our corporate office that these losses need to be structured and systematic, and consistent from coast to coast.
We are committed to using our knowledge, gained right here in Central and Eastern Kentucky, to help those who have clients in need. We want to take the time to thank each of our clients, both residential and commercial alike, for all of the support given to us over the years. Without you, our passion of serving those int heir time of need could not happen, and we are eternally grateful.
